These flowers want sun. Such a cheerful display. It makes me feel happy. I was inspired by this beautiful flower bouquet from my daughter Claire.
When it gets too hot, I provide shade with a white sheet. I attach it to the railing with clothespins. Then stretch the sheet over the plants and attach the corners to the chair and door nob. Since the deck faces south, otherwise the plants would die in hot sun.
On the covered deck, the plants are protected on three sides. It creates a micro climate. With too much shade the flowers stop blooming.
But in September when it cools down, I fertilize the plants and remove the white sheet. They bloom into December.
I feel sad digging out flowering plants. But I don't want them to freeze and get slimy.
