Some 15-year-old model (a very pretty teenager) wants to work at my store. 15! Does she need makeup money? What happened to teens getting an education? I heard teens need a worker's permit to be hired at the age of 15 or younger? I bet my boss said for her to come for an interview just for her looks! Lol. Does she have the brains to back up her beauty? She looks skinny. Oh well. I guess people get hired for odd reasons. Why do teens need a lot of money? My parents gave me an allowance and I had my necessities paid for until I was 18-years-old. I stayed in school and I didn't want a job while I was in school.
Is that a form of discrimation? That makes me wonder why I got hired so fast? My boss said she saw me at Wahsatch working the front and remembered what I looked like? She also told me she thought I wouldn't be able to keep up with the fast pace here? Hmmm... I am so confused right now?
I also got an allowance growing up, and instead of buying lunch at school, I saved it.
Same for me too.
I would say you were quite privileged, many kids do not have it so good. I never had an allowance and mowed lawns from when I was 8 until I began a part time job at a supermarket at 14. I had to leave school at 16 as my father decided he didn't wish to support me any more, ie feed and house me so I was out of home. Many of my students and foster kids have been in similar situations. This girl obviously wants to work, I say good on her.
I was in foster care. I moved out when I was 16, then moved back when I was 17, and then a treatment center until I was 18.
My 15 year old makes money however he can, he tried You Tube, he house sits, yard work, etc... I tell him that as long if is grades slip, he must stop working these odd jobs. He worked at Six Flags for Halloween, he was visibly too tired for school, so I made him quit before the job was done... I think we should encourage our kids to figure out how to make money. This country is all about money. I worked when I was 15, that’s the year I left home and have been on my own ever since. Teach your kids a good work ethic at a young age, it will pay off for them. I am living proof.
True I guess. I wish they would stay in school. It is summer soon. Summer jobs.
I was working three afternoons a week by the time I was 13 yo - babysitting 2 kids with ADHD.
By the time I was 15 I worked at least three afternoons a week at the Public library.
All while in school.
The money was put away towards my college. If I requested money for something reasonable I might get it.
I also did part time work in college.
I don't find it at all odd that a 15 yo would be looking for work.
Laws vary by State. I'm guessing she wants part time work.
We are all part time. Read above on my answer.
@Sarahroo29 I think you missed the point.
My parents did NOT hand me money for extras.
Even my own paycheck was banked and I had to ask for money from it. (My Mom was very concerned about drug abuse potential).
It was literally banked for college.
You might think all teens are flighty but I was very hard working. And it wasn't for makeup or movies or clothes.
@RavenCT I've only been around the teens that don't want to work for their money. It's mostly in the fast food business that this happens. I had to do a lot of chores for $5 a week.
Don't remember how it is in Colorado, but I believe the teenager needs to have a work permission slip signed by her parents to go to work at 15. She will also need to show that her family needs the money.
This may have changed since I last looked at it though. My oldest son wanted to work at age 15 (in Texas) and I would have had to jump through hoops to allow him.
I heard you need a permit.
"Kids these days. " You're 30 right? LOL
I just edited this.
Read the bottom half please.
@Sarahroo29 You're boss has come on to you right?
@kmdskit3 Kind of. She still kind of does. Can't do that with a teenager though.
@Sarahroo29 Might be a pattern.
@kmdskit3 Pedophilia if it's done to a teenager. She did find out that I'm intelligent, a fast and hard worker, and I know more about Wendy's than I let on.
