By statistics no but then again racism is very high among the blind(that seems ironic doesn't it?). In Australia where I'm from the Census dipped Christians all the was way down to 52% total, Catholics at about 32% of that which are the least willing to change area of mainstream Christianity. Next 'religious group was Islam as 2.5%. Though after Christian about 30% ticked non-religious. That number used to be 60 and then 90% years before that. People are protective of their group, so if you're out to 'get' Christians you're after the majority and maybe these non-believers are trolls. I think there should be freedom unless it impedes another's freedom and your religious or lack of religious belief shouldn't matter.

If anything, I've found that atheists are a lot less likely to be racist (or even very judgmental in general). They are usually people who have the ability to think things through and not leap for the first convenient answer...I believe this results in atheists being more open-minded and accepting of differences in others...To put it another way, I doubt that there are many atheists at KKK rallies

Atheists are as everything as religious people. They are as good, they are as bad. They are as racist, they are as inclusive. Stupid theists really have nothing on stupid atheists.

There’s bad people in all, but I have noticed lots of religious people seem to ha e a racist view of things. I once knew a woman who would brag to her other white friends about the joys of being white because God’s chosen people were the white Jews. Kid you not. What I absolutely hated about the Bible is how it supports Alavert and even goes into detail about how you should treat them, calling them property.

I think atheists are more open minded in their attitude to people, having no inbuilt bias for any particular group or sect. Having no atheist church, means each atheist thinks for themselves and is not influenced by the prejudice of religious dogma. Which accounts for quite a bit of inter-racial strife.

I believe that atheists usually have arrived at atheism by examining their own minds and conclusions. Atheism is not taught as a belief as other religions are. The reasons atheists do not join together is because they have not been taught faith. They believe in their own minds and abilities to distinguish bias. In my past, I realized that I could not love or respect a god who demanded allegiance above all as in the first three commandments.

I don't believe that atheists are as racist as religious people. They have at least one less bias to begin with. In addition, atheists usually have arrived at their decision by themselves and each has slowly realized that they are individuals and respect others for that reason.

I am origionally from the Netherlands. Many people are agnostic or atheist there. Churches are closing. People are running away from religion. Most racism there came from the religious people. I moved to the US in 2010. People are way more racist here and way more religious. Makes you wonder if there is a relationship between religion an racism.

After that, all bets are off. Atheists can be any combination of things even racists, we just can't be theists at the same time.

Racism can be just as prevalent amongst non believers.Too many people equate Islam with race disliking Pakistanis, Iraqis and others as much because of their colour and perceived personal and family ways as due to their religion.Those of other religions may dislike Muslims for the same reasons but also due to the claim of the Koran to be the final Word of the same Christian and Jewish God.

None of the atheists I know are racists, except for a pair who are 90+ years old.

From what I have seen on here and in other forums, people are people, regardless of belief. Much of racism is based on fear; fear of the unknown, fear of the not like us, fear passed down through generations. Fear can also be enhanced by the media. If your most common exposure to people of color, Muslims or even Jews is movies or television, you are going to have a very skewered view of these people. Though there has been some improvement, dark skinned people, especially men, were always portrayed as the drug dealers, the pimps, the criminals in most TV shows and movies. Muslims are generally portrayed as terrorists and thieves, Jews as money hoarders and con men. If your primary exposure to people not like you is the media, chances are you are going to have low opinions of those “others.” I ran into this a lot in the small villages of Pennsylvania, where the only contact many people had with anyone not white was very limited, but they had TV and movie theaters. Even if you were a non believer, your views on race were being formed in negative ways.

Southern churches were historically huge supporters of slavery and attempts to twist scripture to make is seem as if Jesus hated black people and that God loved slavery. Many churches still seem to have that frame of mind. I read that recently of a new pastor in a southern church, for his first sermon, spoke of the evils of racism and accepting people of other races. The congregation fired him before the next Sunday. I know that all southerners are NOT racists but racism is alive and well in many churches.

Most of the reason I have become agnostic is because of the hypocrisy of devout religions. They lie. They judge. I have found people who aren't religious have more of a live and let live attitude.

I believe some can be just as zealous and closed-minded, but not all. But I think you mean just as intolerant?

I have had a godless life and found that on the whole the people I meet are kindly souls and fairly acceptant of others - I make sure that no one talks to me about gods because it will always end up with them showing me their prejudices and that isnt much fun.
