My (young adult) kid who is autistic and getting ready to graduate university, is very lonely and really ready to start dating. He has yet to have the time or the inclination. But now he says he wants to, but it's hard when; 1 - he's on the spectrum and has trouble connecting with people, 2 - he's very introverted, 3 - he's a non believer and thinks this limits (it does) his pool of possible choices (religious people usually aren't interested in nons), and 4 - he has a hard time knowing whether or not someone is actually interested in him in a romantic way. He doesn't want a shallow relationship. He likes deep conversations and people with depth, not shallow people. Any autists on here have luck with dating and relationships and want to share some tips that I could pass on? LIke, any luck with dating apps or something like that?
Perhaps you could start a meet up group for people on the spectrum. Would they come?
Well, he will be living out of state. He's in school out of state and plans to work there after graduation. So I couldn't really do that. But if he were to be here, I might.
@AgnoLulu maybe he can start one?
@Bigwavedave Well, he might - when things eventually get back to normal. Now he's home from school, and won't even get to graduate because of the virus. I really wish I knew how to help him meet people.
I'm curious about this as well. Having always struggled with loneliness myself, I am worried that my son on the spectrum will have trouble once he gets to that age. If you ever feel like it would be something you might want to share I would be interested in hearing how things go for him. And I hope my asking doesn't seem somehow inappropriate.
I really wish he could find a young woman who's also on the spectrum. I feel that they would be more easily able to connect. But it seems it's not so easy to find them.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
