Gastroparesis is now in month 10 of serious flare(last bad one lasted nearly two years). I also have fibromyalgia and a few other things to deal with.
In the past month, I could fit the amount of solid food I ate into a sandwich ziplock...but no weight loss. I’m exhausted; I feel totally useless. The weirdest things just make me throw up, often without warning: a few nights ago, it was seeing a snail on the front porch.
Thanks for listening; I needed to vent!
Hi CarolinaGirl60. I'm curious but do you take morphine for pain from the fibro? I ask because I was taking morphine for pain from Lupus and I suffered from gastroparesis for about 5 years. I was prescribed Reglan for each meal. I couldn't stand the fear and queasiness anymore, I finally went to the gastroenterologist again and he got my insurance to cover oxycontin instead. I've been so much better ever since I got off morphine. I can eat again. I don't know if your situation could be similar. My gastroenterologist was quite surprised as it is uncommon for that to happen someone who isn't diabetic.
No, I haven’t been on morphine for years; since 2012. I did have a two-year issue with severe n/v and pseudo obstruction while on morphine, but was not tested for GP til January of this year.
I’m only on Tylenol #3 and tizanidine for the fibromyalgia. I’m allergic to oxy, and to Reglan. I hope at my next GI appointment, there will be treatment ideas available. I am diabetic, but I wasn’t when this happened before.
@CarolinaGirl60 I'm so sorry this is happening. I also hope that soon there will be a treatment that will help you!
You're in the right place, we all have weird shit happening with our bodies. I wish I had some helpful suggestions, but I'm lucky enough not to have gastroparesis.
It's a crappy condition to have. i know as it has affected me for many years now due to diabetes. i'm a long term diabetes survivor and about ten years ago noticed some strange symptoms in that the food i would eat, didn't seem to want to leave! and i felt so full all the time. i eventually looked up the symptoms and became aware of this new happening with my body so went and received some meds for it. they do help but one of the side effects is breast cancer which i really don't want so i don't take the meds as frequently as i should.
i've thought a lot about this disease and have come to the thought that the food stays so long in your system that whomever has this gets the full value of the food instead of it going through quickly and not getting all the calories of said food. YAY! aren't we lucky? lol. so sorry for you as i know this sucks. maybe you can get on one of the stomach emptying meds so that it goes through quicker and you don't feel so bad?
