How many of you have heard of Adverse Childhood Experiences? There was a study conducted by the CDC and Kaiser Permanente, about the effect of childhood trauma on the body. The research is astounding. People with >4 Adverse Childhood Experiences had a much higher likelihood of developing an autoimmune disorder. When a child experiences an adverse traumatic event, the child's cells are bathing in inflammatory hormones. Hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. It's one thing for the monster to be under the bed once in awhile. It's a whole other animal for the monster to come home, every day. So as a child the cells are bathed in these flammatory hormones day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. And the end result is disease in adulthood. I invite you to take the quiz/test for yourself. Know your number. And if it is >4, tell your healthcare provider.
I score VERY HIGH and have two autoimmune disorders.
Thanks for sharing. A lot of variables in this acronym. I'm going to look into it further. Fortunately I didn't score high on the ACE and scored very high on the resilience side but I am anything but resilient. Interesting. Wonder how much I screwed up my kids now. Hopefully not at all.
I've been reading up on it this past year. 3 Autoimmune Disorders here, so I'm batting 1,000 on their theory.
My score is 4. I have fibromyalgia, and now gastroparesis.
Makes sense.
