Just returned from seeing my new neuro-nurse practitioner! (A female, btw.) She was like night and day from the previous neuro-jerk! We're titrating down from this horrid AED and discussed what is acceptable in terms of seizures. ALL AEDS have side-effects, that's a given. There are two extremely new ones out that she thinks might work for me but she'd have to get pre-authorization from insurance, plus see if the drug company would enroll me in patient-assistance, as there is no way in hades I can afford either of these on my own. But we might just agree that the high-dose topamax is acceptable, given that I tolerate it well and have minimal seizures on it. We'll see what happens after I get off this awful, terrible, no-good med.

I've had horrible side effects from everything. I finally told my latest AED to take a hike and went Ketogenic a year ago. Only a few absence seizures, and I've lost 30 pounds.

Hope the funding works out for you.
