The war on opioids has claimed yet another victim. Day after day I hear of another pain patient committing suicide, and today is no different except this time they committed suicide by cop, and it was my moms friend.
Today, I felt a sort of survivor's guilt and realized it is literally a matter of time for my mom and myself.
I'm lucky. Even in the middle of this heinous attack on patients, I managed to receive proper treatment and my medicine. But I feel horrible about it now that I realize how many people out there are in so much pain they can't survive and no one is helping them no one is giving them the medicine they need while I pop mine without considering how many people out there arent getting treatment.
I mean I know how many there are. I know people are killing themselves because of pain and lack of care. I was almost one of them. I'm positive WHEN they take mine away I will also want to die.
This is just....a mixed bag of fucked up.
Why are they doing this to us?
Hardly anyone takes the time in the first place to understand the nature of opioid addiction for one, so assumptions are made in many directions. Also, comparatively, the branch of medicine dealing with the complexity of pain is extremely young only really getting it's vitality by the mid or late 1980s.
It just really hurts that because people out there are abusing it, people like me are dying in horrific agony. It hurts my heart even more than the disease destroying my body.
Alcohol kills more people than all drugs combined but that is available everywhere to anyone with an i.d. and no one is trying to take it away.
It isn't fair. It isn't fair that I have to stand here watching people like me die just because some rich dudes think we are addicts.
