Should I go to emergency room with my chronic illness?
I'm thinking probably whatever was going on at the time you wrote this, it probably wasn't severe enough to need emergency treatment. If it were wouldn't it be better to call whatever medical facility with an ER and talk to them? That's what I'd do, actually have done a couple of times. Actually, the Medical Center that most of my Dr's belong to has a Nurse's 24hr line you can call if unsure of what to do. Now I go by the list of symptoms, etc that are considered "emergencies". Maybe you have these options also? Or maybe not. Last couple of times I let the paramedics convince me to go and pretty much just ended up with more medical bills because of my copays and just a day or two of rest and being stuck in my arms every three hours. Guess by now you've decided what to do. Hope it helped.
I think she makes a valid point. She feels like its life and death, even though her vitals say otherwise. Those with invisible illnesses know when something out of the norm and they should not apologize for going to the ER.
Some places don't have easily accessible walk in clinics, ER is the only option.
Just use common sense. If the situation is life-threatening, then go to the ER. Whether it involves a chronic illness doesn't have anything to do with it.
