Anyone here battling chronic Lyme disease and coinfections? If so, how are you handling your presumably pro-science outlook with your denied-by-science diagnosis?

(To anyone who might feel like telling me I don't have CLD, you should know that it took decades and lots of evidence before I was even willing to consider it. Also, I'm not interested in debating it.)

People assume that medicine has answers. I have chronic neurological problems that can't be put into a neat little box. Neurology certainly doesn't have answers and when they think they do, there's no cure anyway except pills that are often worse than the disease. The only thing that I've ever had wrong with me, previous to my current woes, is Lyme Disease. It preceded all of my symptoms. I was sick on and off for years after treatment until I found a doctor that treated me for chronic Lyme. That was many years ago and he helped many people. His reward was that they took his license away because the medical community at large does not believe in chronic Lyme.
Medical science has never had all the answers. It takes pioneers to go where others dare not go to get medical breakthroughs. That and alot of funding.

That really sucks. They tried to take my doctor's license too.

@vita I feel you. ILAD's has a list of docs but they have to take cash only. I was thinking about getting the whole shebang for labs to see if they can find any residuals but I'm kind of done with it all. I would imagine most of us are tired of all the doctors.

You have a history of Lyme and currently have symptoms of Lyme. Personally, I think your money would be better spent treating Lyme rather than trying to prove Lyme. (Standard "I am not a doctor or any kind of medical professional" disclaimer.)

I don't have Lyme disease but I do have a chronic illness. It is undiagnosed and largely they treat symptoms. I'm told "it might just be your new normal". However, that's not the fault of science, but the ego of man. As a scientist, I continue to experiment, ask questions and confer with others. Science doesn't have all the answers, is occasionally completely wrong and is only as perfect as the humans perpetrators. However, as it had no god, it's not writ in stone. If your hypothesis is that your illness causes something contrary to science, I implore you to continue using science to prove it. Medical science particularly has a reputation for clinging to antiquated ideas that are changed by one determined, intelligent human. You can be that hero. Don't give up, read everything, contact every doctor who might have an answer, compile evidence and do things to make yourself better. Someday they will see the I light.

You're completely correct, of course, but that fight requires more $$$ and stamina than I have at the moment. Still, I'm pushing as much as I can.

@vita I can sense your strong and love you for it. Lyme disease is horrible and science seems to be unwilling to admit they are clueless about it. The good news is, they were just as bad about hand washing and getting rid of blood letting. Some day, hopefully in the very near future, your answer will seem just as obvious and we'll all just wonder how science could have been so arrogant. ?

Mine too. I'm sorry you're battling it as well.

I've got friends with Lyme, I swear, it can mimic the symptoms of almost anything.

Curious as to why someone would dispute the validity of the disease?

@vita So it's not an argument that Lyme disease isn't an actual infection, but that it triggers an autoimmune response? Interesting read. Thanks.

Personally, I believe it does both: persists as an infection (unless you're accurately diagnosed and receive adequate treatment before it becomes disseminated) and triggers autoimmunity.
