Has anyone heard of schema therapy? I don't think I qualify as having BPD but have some core belief issues (broken, not worthy, etc.) around which I've built lots of interesting structures which cause me all kinds of problems. I've done a bit of reading around schema therapy but haven't seriously set out to do the work (it looks hard).
Never heard of it before but I can relate to those deeply rooted messages causing modern day issues. What I have been practicing lately is acceptance and I found writing post it notes to myself to be most helpful. I have battled those internal voices telling me how rotten I am all my life. Many people tried telling me I was worthy but my mind instantly argued with them. So one day I changed the message from "I am worthy"it to " I accept this" (raise, relationship, car....) and posted it around the house. It has helped me a lot to reword it, write it down, and then read it. I accept this...
As for being broken? I imagine that to be part of what makes me unique, like a kaleidoscope, bunch of broken pieces that look absolutely stunning in the right light! Nothing wrong with being broken, or injured. The beauty is in the perseverance and determination it requires to overcome all that negative programming. Your sharing here is a sign of strength in my opinion anyway. Thank-you. Please keep us updated about therapy if you decided to do it.
@DharmaEngineer Thank you, I appreciate that.
