Any poetry suggestions? Ted Hughes, for example?

Apple Tragedy

So on the seventh day
The serpent rested,
came up to him.
"I've invented a new game," he said.

The serpent stared in surprise
At this interloper.
But said: "You see this apple?"
I squeeze it and look-cider."

The serpent had a good drink
And curled up into a question mark.
Adam drank and said: "Be my ."
Eve drank and opened her legs

And called to the cockeyed serpent
And gave him a wild time.
ran and told Adam
Who in drunken rage tried to hang himself in the orchard.

The serpent tried to explain, crying "Stop"
But drink was splitting his syllable.
And Eve started screeching: "Rape! Rape!"
And stamping on his head.

Now whenever the snake appears she screeches
"Here it comes again! Help! O Help!"
Then Adam smashes a chair on his head,
And says: "I am well pleased"

And everything goes to hell.

This is my favourite poem. It’s by Gerard Manley Hopkins. Margaret gets her first sense of decay as the trees ‘unleave’ in autumn. The poet thinks about how she’ll encounter decay and death in more profound ways as she goes through life. He finishes with the thought that the bottom line for young Margaret (who I think must stand for all of us) is that she has had the first inkling of the sense of her own death.

To a young child

Margaret, are you grieving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leaves, like the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
Ah! as the heart grows older
It will come to such sights colder
By and by, nor spare a sigh
Though worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie;
And yet you will weep know why.
Now no matter, child, the name:
Sorrow’s springs are the same.
Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed
What heart heard of, ghost guessed:
It is the blight man was born for,
It is Margaret you mourn for.

To me, it reads like an archetype for Saturday nights after the pub. We read all about it in the Sunday papers. Well, perhaps not all about it. The emotional distress, family breakup, betrayal are suffered privately.
