NDP MP Charlie Angus proposed a bill this week which, if passed, would effectively criminalize any and all advocacy for Canada's oil and gas industry.
Bill C-372 would make it "prohibited for a person to promote a fossil fuel or the production of a fossil fuel in a manner that states or suggests that the fossil fuel... [is] less harmful than other fossil fuels... [or] would lead to positive outcomes in relation to the environment, the health of Canadians, reconciliation with Indigenous peoples or the Canadian or global economy."
In other words, the bill would make it illegal to say that oil and gas is better than coal, that it's good for the economy, that it could help improve quality of life in Indigenous communities, or that fossil fuels have powered a 98% reduction in climate-related deaths in the past 100 years. The fact that all of these statements are true doesn't matter to radical far-left authoritarians like Angus.
But of course, this is just yet another example of the Liberal-NDP coalition showing utter contempt for freedom of speech.
They've already censored the internet and used emergency powers against peaceful protesters together, and now they want to just make it illegal to point out facts that are inconvenient to their radical anti-energy agenda.
