I hope you all don't mind an American liberal hanging out here for the next 2 1/2 years . Would you accept me as a virtual Canuck ?
Longing for good beer, polite people and universal healthcare are you? If so you are welcome to stay.
I haven't had beer since I tasted it as a child. I've also never had poutine, although it sounds pretty fantastic. This is to say that you're welcome here with or without, although I suppose you can give both a shot before you decide.
Here are a couple of things to know about us now that you're here. Most Canadians don't speak French and not all of us say "eh" - not that I don't enjoy hearing it. We are very patriotic, but polite about it, and we take pride in our reputation for being nice.
Hope you enjoy your virtual stay here!
We have a lot of patriots in the US the ones you see aren't polite nor nice . Perverted patriotism .
@Besalbub
I think we all have people in our own backyard who we wish would dig themselves a hole and stay in it.
Before my first trip to NYC, many years ago, I'd heard that New Yorkers were very rude and braced myself, but found it wasn't the case at all. People were confident and straight forward, but very helpful and engaging. I couldn't look lost for more than 10 seconds before someone (men and women, young and old) stopped to ask me if I needed help finding something. They would take the time to continue with suggestions for places to go and things to see. People were very inclusive, socially.
I haven't come across that "perverted patriotism" during any of my visits to US cities, but I think belligerence can be found anywhere in the world.
