My Fellow Canadians. I began researching to write a national crisis intrigue story set in Canada and have discovered some interesting facts. First. The Queen Of England/UK is the supreme commander of the Canadian Armed forces. She also head of state. It is not our PM. I also discovered that our country would fall into chaos since there is no defined Canadian resolve for a military crisis or for the sudden death of the PM. Who doesn't have the power to do much as far as military ops goes. I am sure there must be something in place but it not immediately evident. The best I can come up with is the Ministry of Public Safety who controls things like Csis, Csec and JTF2 I believe. What i am saying is what ever the system is it appears to be hapgazard and weak.
Just a research observation. I am still Researching hoping to find I missed something essential.

It's my understanding that when the constitution was repatriated the queen became little more than a figurehead in any decision making capacity regarding military, political or otherwise. As to who is in charge of what should the PM pass away while in office? I suspect the second in command.. whoever that may be at the time.

the GG /Queen may be the commander of the armed forces BUT the Pm and cabinet make the decisions. GG just approves and to do otherwise would constitute a political crisis.

If something happens to the PM, there can be a Deputy PM who acts are a caretaker (Don't think Trudeau has one though) The ruling party and the GG would consult about a transition and the party would elect a new leader aka new PM
