Waiting now for my "invite to order" the newest Tesla Model 3. I like everything about my Model S except how big it is. It is WAY larger than anything I need, and it does act like all of the 5100 pounds that it actually weighs.
The new Model 3 is at least 1000 pounds lighter and a foot shorter, so all the early driving reviews report it actually handles more like a "sports sedan" than the Model 2. I am waiting, even though I put my deposit in on almost the very first day (I was a day late, since I was touring in China and couldn't get an internet connection until the second day of open deposits). Now I am waiting for the actual "invite" to order the AWD, HIGH PERFORMANCE version of the Model 3. It appears to be a smidgen slower 0-60 mph than my "Ludicrous upgraded" Model S P85D, but it also should be a MUCH better track car, since the newer battery technology in this 2018 model does not have the "power reduction" experienced in the Model S after about 3 minutes of full power draw. Early owners of even the "base power' Model 3 vehicles are seeing full power functionality on track day testing with lap times of these "base power" cars coming close to track records for the original Acura NSX !!! While a base Model 3 could hypothetically be as low as $35,000, my version will likely be around $80,000, and I am likely to add another $3-6000 post delivery with a custom interior and a full color change exterior "wrap." Even at that price level the Model 3 will be about $60,000 less than a similar fully equipped Model S (though the S would be quicker 0-60 mph).
Down the road in about 3 years, I am actually considering getting the promised Tesla generation II Roadster, which was shown in November of 2017 in prototype form. That model is actually a 2 + 2 and promises 620 miles range, 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of....250+ mph !!!!! Yes, it is expensive, but I HAVE started my savings program already, so at least I will have the "option" of considering that totally....ridiculous toy.
When you don't have kids, you DO have many other alternatives to consider financially in your senile years.

Posted by OhubCleaned up my 4C last night and took it to a loc car show this morning. There were three 4Cs there - which might be about the total of them in Omaha. The third 4C parked in a different area.
