So sad for you....been there done that, multiple times, it never gets easier, even though we both know you did the kind thing.
Thank you, @AnneWimsey. Love is not for sissies, eh?
21 years is a good run for a cat. When I had to send my heart cat to the Rainbow Bridge I knew I'd never have another kitty like her, she was especially people bonded. A few months after she passed I got Xena, and about 10 months later I got Zelda. I love my girls, but they're not Miss Millie. Miss Millie will forever be the ultimate heart cat. Give yourself time to mourn, and then get another baby that needs you. My house just isn't my home without a kitty, or two.
Miss Millie sounds like a treasure! Chloe, too, is my heart cat - I like that expression! She was tenacious and vocal that she was entitled to be with us whenever, wherever, and how she wanted (My daughter's art teacher spent years with Chloe wrapped around his neck, grooming him, while he gave his weekly lessons). I think we changed quite a few people's minds that cats are shy, retiring, and aloof.
ps - I love the names Xena and Zelda!
@Lauren My brother asked me if I named my kitties for gods, and I said Of course! I also wanted to use the less frequently used letters of the alphabet. Miss Millie's full name was The Millennium Kitten. She was born in 1999
@HippieChick58 Oh, gods, of course I should have known! And here I was thinking you were a gamer.
Miss Millie's name is downright noble. I like it.
Today 11/01/2020 someone was asking me about euthenasing her 18 year old companion that she saved at birth. I told her that for my beloved PussPuss who was my companion for 22+ years it was just like, as frequently happened, going to sleep cuddled on my shoulder. Sadly the reminder has left me very emotional the rest of the day.
They live in your heart and mind forever. Vale your beloved Chloe. I understand and commiserate. Be joyous that you allowed her suffering to end.
Ah, I'm sorry for the reminder of your darling PussPuss ... such bittersweet memories and, you're right, they're with us forever. How many other creatures achieve such trusting intimacy with us? We (my daughter and I) stayed with her in my bed as much as we could, caring for her the last couple of weeks, until she went into a coma, and we chose intervention to end it for her.
Sorry for your loss. It is never easy losing our fur babies.
Glad she lived a long happy life! I lost my favorite cat to a coyote. I am sorry for your loss.
Oh my god, @EyesThatSmile, how traumatic! I'm so sorry. I know I'm lucky that it was a good life. I couldn't ask for more.
I have had many of my children pass, it is hard, so hard and nothing can replace the love shared. We have come to learn that the best thing to do is go to the local shelter and see who chooses you to take them home. Last time we we adopted by two paired cats. Always sad, but new relationships kind of help things go forward. Sorry for your loss.
I suspect I shall, but first I think I need a little breather. But I'm a big believer in finding the right match, so I know we'll pick each other when we look eye to eye.
Sorry for your loss, the longest any of my cats lived was 19 and 16, and it really does get empty after they are gone.
Thank you. After a certain age, we remind ourselves that they can't live much longer, and yet it's still such a loss when they go. Sometimes I swear I see her on my bed when passing.
21 yrs. That's amazing. We gave our cats the best care possible( that we knew of) & never had one live past 17.
It was a wonderfully long run, @callmedubious, and perhaps we got accustomed to thinking she'd keep going. We got another cat after her who, unfortunately, got cancer and didn't live nearly as long (I believe it was only 10 years).

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
