Does anyone know the exact year domestic cats forgot how to eat? I leave a bag of cat food open. That way they don't bug me, don't fight over it, and don't overeat. They still want the damn food in their bowl!
I have the dry food in a plastic food bin, with a lid that closes fairly tightly but has an easy to open spout on the top of it. I have one cat that has learned how to access the food. He knocks the entire container off the chair, table or counter and then works at the spout to get it open.
He overeats though, in part because he is on steroids for allergy.
You have to show them how to break into the sack, the effort they put forward helps them. Perhaps a small hole in the side, slammer than 1/8 in. sp they can smell the goodies.
The top is open, yo. They know how to get into it.
@TheGreatShadow They know how to get into it they just do not want to play that game. Have to make it a game.
According to the Smithsonian Magazine about 13 years ago and to the nearest 1000 years, the answer is 12,000 years ago.
Like little kids, routine is ALL! Dogs are even worse......
Canned food for them when I get my own breakfast, dry food all day.
In all the years I have shared my home with cats I have always fed canned cat food in the morning, and dry available for free feeding throughout the day. My girls were started with Trader Joe's Tuna cat food. And then TJ stopped selling it. So I've tried the other TJs foods, and they did not seem to care for it. So I tried the Friskies from the grocery store, and mixed results. Miss Zelda eats anything and plays with the dry food. Miss Xena doesn't seem to eat any of the canned stuff, but will eat the dry, she also looks like she has lost some weight which is not a problem. The girls used to race me to the kitchen in the morning and dive into the canned food as soon as I set it down. Now they might race me to the kitchen, but they wander off when I set the food down. They're not starving so I'm not worried, but a bit annoyed with TJs.
The little furries will eat about anything! They are strays. I feed them scraps from what I don't eat. When I try to cook something, and mess it up, they usually eat it. If they don't, I know i messes up as a cook!
The smallest furry (Ambrocious) has eaten a mouse basically swallowing it whole! All I saw was a tail out of her mouth. Tommi (other furry) might do that, but never saw it.
I try to feed them wet once a day, but they try to trip (and possibly) kill me when they hear that can open! BTW most domestic cats don't naturally like fish. That came from WWII when fish awful was used to make kitteah food.
They need to know you love them, again, and again, and again.....
They know it! Ahhhhh! Lol
They're divas. The more you wait on them, the better they like it.
The little furry turds! I wouldn't give them up for anything as annoying as they may be! Limited exceptions...
@TheGreatShadow yep, they have me trained and i obey
