Passacaglia (or Passacaille) in D major by S. L. Weiss (a Baroque composer contemporary with Bach), is a piece well known within Classical guitar circles, but relatively unknown in the wider Classical repertory. I feel it deserves to be as well known as another solo instrumental piece, Debussy's Claire De Lune. It is highly memorable, accessibly tuneful, and well constructed. It would be deserving of 'greatest hits' status if such a thing existed for the genre. This is probably my favorite performance of the piece, by Hopkinson Smith:
