To complete my introduction to Scriabin's early piano music I will present to of my favorite preludes, both in a major key, one introvert, the other extrovert. The op. 11 no. 9, I consider to be a small scale masterpiece. In the span of less than two minutes, from simple elements, Scriabin compresses a world of intense feeling. A restlessly questioning piano figure is repeated with well-conceived alterations, and is finally given a quizzical resolution. The second selection, op. 11 no. 11, is comprised of arabesque figurations which express romantic yearning and emotion overflowing. The fluidity of the piano writing is remarkable, as is Scriabin's ability to dissolve the individual notes into organic sounding eddies and swells.
