Hey, do y’all know anything about the 90’s or earlier audiobooks? Classic readings and I can’t find them anywhere.

Audible has all of the radio series and the books read by Stephen Fry then Martin Freeman. I’ve had the radio series memorized for years, made Audible worthwhile.

The first part of this reissue is an interview with Adams. I just checked. This is the original! Yay! Deleting the cassette upload. Enjoy!

Overdrive is a good place to try before you buy. Many public library systems offer it to their members for free. [overdrive.com]

There are a number of versions. The best is the original BBC radio version. It stays true to the book and has most of the same cast that eventually made the television series back in the 80s.

There is a newer BBC version with Geoffrey McGivern, who was the original Ford Prefect. It's over-produced to the point that the whole thing feels bloated. Whoever wrote this treatment also tried to update it, shoving in pop culture references that actually date it far more than the original.

There is yet another version read by Martin Freeman (the big screen Arthur Dent.) It's pleasant, but lacks the spark of the original radio drama.

I love this version. He does suck a good job with the voices, this is going to take me back decades, thank you!
