I loved Doris Troy’s original while I was in high school, especially that funky piano laying down a rhythm that for me defines “rockin”. But the prize goes to my dream girl Linda, whose voice is unmatched and who as usual assembled a top notch backing band for this recording.
Just for fun, give a listen to the Hollies’ 1965 cover of this song with Graham Nash giving all that he’s got on the bridge.
