Beginner advice.
Just starting a fitness journey. I enjoy hiking but I’m not physically fit. I’m excited at the idea of being stronger and seeing results.
What advice would you give to a beginner who doesn’t really know where to start?
Take it slowly and easy, exercise different parts on different days. I swim two days and do weights two days and some days do the elliptical walker on days I do not feel like swimming. I also go to a gym that has a wet and dry sauna and a whirlpool as I live in a big city (though small as world cities go) so I have lots of choices. Some hiking but not often.
Right there with you! I got the RBG Workout book from the library recently and decided to do it the recommended twice a week for the rest of the year.
What is rbg?
I watch workout videos on youtube. I'm on a fitness journey as well.
As with any journey, you start at the beginning. =] It's difficult to give advice with this amount of information to go on. You mentioned being stronger, so I assume you want to incorporate resistance training. For me, a resistance training program combined with regular cardio and some floor exercises has worked well. Do you have a gym membership? If so, I recommend making use of their trainers to help you create a routine you can ease into and then build upon.
I do have a gym membership. Right now I struggle to just a few reps on some machines set at the lowest weight. My upper body is very weak.
@BeccaVa A quick Google search got this hit: [brooklynactivemama.com]
Several different training programs for ladies. #8 is entitled "Beginning Weight Lifting Routine for Women." Maybe some of these will help you to find a starting point.
80%+ of your success or lack thereof will be a function of what you eat and more importantly, don't eat. There are various approaches like paleo, keto, carnivore. All rely on low to ultra low carbs, moderate protein and plenty of healthy fat. Avoid refined carbs like the poison they are, especially sugar and all of its variants. Incorporate intermittent fasting
I definitely struggle with diet. I’m a vegetarian and eat way too much processed imitation meat.
@BeccaVa I will PM you
Start slow, be forgiving of yourself if you aren't perfect, and do something you enjoy. I was in bad shape with bulging discs so I went to physical therapy first. I don't think I could have done it without them bringing me along slowly but my back was really screwed.
