I watched a few episodes of Quantico on Netflix last night. In the first episode a former Mormon missionary who's training to become an FBI agent blows himself away because he thinks he's going to be outed for a girl he got killed on his mission. He got a 14-year-old girl pregnant and then she died after he took her for an illegal abortion.
It's a bit extreme but as an exmo, I find it accurately conveys the basic way church members operate: screw up, screw up bigger trying to cover up the screw up, then live in fear and shame forever after worrying about someone finding out about the screw up.
Reminds me of a Missionary I met who was a former drug dealer who saw nothing wrong with "atoning" for past sins by using the money made from poisoning kids with crack to pay for his mission.
I had such a guilt complex, that I'd even feel guilty over things others did.
