My "leaving the church" story's pretty interesting.
I had a psychotic break in 2014. During one of my delusions i quit intelectually believing in mormonism for reasons that were irrational. After two months and i had got better mentally I still didnt believe, so the break had been permanent. But i was still emotionall attacthed to that faith. I couldnt leave mormons alone and all that. Then two years later i had another psychotic break. I had a really cool experience in the mental hospital that severed my remaining emotional attatchments.
I walked away from that faith and have never looked back. Im still on the books though.
What are your story's
great story, mine is a bit more complex, I'll post in in full here one day.
I told my parents I didn't want to go to church anymore at age 17. I never did buy into the bs, but it took that long to begin to be openly defiant.
I got married at 19, moved away & got the occasional letter saying where the nearest church was which I ignored.
We had a couple of kids, bought a home, & suddenly I was being called for relief society meetings. I said I was not interested & kept hanging up.
Next, the bishop, with minion in tow, showed up at the front door, demanding that I begin showing up to church. I told him directly to his face I was not interested in any part of church, slammed the door in his face, & he proceeded to pound on it, & the minion reached over to pound on the living room window next to the front porch, both of them yelling at me! My husband came out of his bath & threatened him with the police to get off our property.
Then I got letters to show up to a kangaroo court with witnesses to state why I should remain a member. Naturally I didn't respond, & the ''court'' date went by.
Next I get a letter stating I had been excommunicated.....therefore, I shouldn't be on the books.
I am now 71, had 3 kids, been married 52 years, & I have not been struck down with any wrath.
The sheer arrogance of the church hierarchy amazes me, the way they feel they have a right to track you down and make demands on you.
For years after I left (resigned) I got harassment, telephone calls, anonymous tracts and letters posted to me, until I rang up the local bishop and said if it did not stop I would sue the church and him personally.
Then it stopped.
@LenHazell53 Yes, its astounding what they will do, & are doing. We had moved to several different places in the province, but they managed to find me every time. Bloody stalking behaviour, as if that would endear them!!!!!
