Today, in 1872, the last Indian war east of the Mississippi ended with the capture of Black Hawk. Strangely enough, the German language Wikipedia reports it as Black Hawk ending the war by giving up while the English language Wiki reports it as Black Hawk being captured.

I read the account of this event first in German, then looked for it in English. I realized that my own preference and prejudice play a big part in understanding, which leads me to the very uncomfortable realization that I cannot trust any account I did not witness personally.
It may be due to a misunderstanding due to differences in translation.
