What the hell is wrong with the USA…they’ve just sided with Natanyahu’s rogue state Israel and vetoed an immediate ceasefire and lifting of the humanitarian food aid embargo in Gaza at the UN…and Trump is conversing by phone with Putin and sympathising about the loss of 40 Russian aircraft in the spectacular Ukrainian bombing raid on Russian airbases at the weekend. He’s telling Ukraine that Putin will have to retaliate instead of telling Putin it’s time for him to withdraw his troops and stop the war with Ukraine. Trump’s administration is on the wrong side of history on both of these continuing humanitarian disasters…and those Americans who have enabled this second presidential term should hang their heads in shame. As a British citizen and long term respector of the USA as an ally and an upholder of democratic values, I can say I’m bewildered by how we now have to view Trump’s America as a state hostile to those democratic and humanitarian values.

I say all this with sadness and sorrow and with no animosity at all to the many American friends I’ve made here on this site, the majority of whom I know are also distressed and angry at the actions of their country at present.

Many of us are also very afraid what he will do and is doing to this country. His insanity is slowly seriously affecting this country. I remember Netanyahu was also a criminal and without his getting elected he could also be ripe for jail. His insane equating anti-semitism with anti-Zionism is affecting those living outside of Israel. To me it might be a way of getting Jewish people to move to that country to escape racism directed at them. Just another excuse to drive out the Palestinians.

The UK is also neck deep enabling the Zionist genocide. I woke up that the US was turning fascist way back in 2013, around Libya. NATO's baby the destruction of that nation, NATO the defense pact of Western European power. Yet you seem surprised?
As for your spectacular bombing raid, you ever wondered why the nuclear deliverable bombers were parked in the open? One arm of the nuclear triad the Russian federation uses for it's nuclear defense? Because it is about avoiding nuclear conflict, contained in the new START treaty to allow these nuclear assets to be visible from the air by both sides, out in the open and not hidden. Another nuclear treaty gone as Russia will hide these assets now.
This is what will happen, Russia will change from a special military operation to war. The next negotiations will be total surrender.
Their early warning radar and now strategic bombers have been targeted by Ukraine, but why you must ask? They do not change the front line in Ukraine one iota. But it is what you do pre an invasion.

This is NATO's proxy war, always has been. The Russian are not stupid and know with surety who not only arms but financially supports and provides Ukraine with military intelligence including targeting information. You seem to want this proxy war to turn into a hot war between nuclear powers and you may get your wish. But you know the ironic thing? There is more danger o your twat Starmer and dipshit Macron causing this nuclear hot war than the fool in the Whitehouse.
And be kind to those who voted Trump because the alternative was Harris, so can't really blame them.

That view could not be further from my own analysis of the situation… in the causes of the war in Ukraine..it’s using Putin’s semantics to call what the Russians have been waging against Ukraine since their 2014 annexing of Crimea as anything other than a war. NATO is not the aggressor, unlike Russia it does not invade any countries, its whole reason for being at all is as a defence organisation and as a deterrent to invasion of any member countries. Had Ukraine been admitted to NATO Putin would never have dared invade.
Why after all these years of staying neutral and not joining NATO do you think Sweden & Finland have now been more than eager to join? It’s because they see how not being in the NATO family leaves any country bordering Russia vulnerable to incursion and full scale invasion. I know Putin isn’t stupud, he’s quite the opposite, he’s a cold and calculating man who has waited a long time to fulfil his ambition of reconstructing the Soviet Empire and taking back into Russia’s orbit and sphere of influence, any stray former members who may be interested in looking westwards and becoming more democratic by joining NATO or the EU.

What I do agree is that the USA has a lot to answer for in supporting Israel no matter the number of UN sanctions it has ignored or downright defied, both in the West Bank and in Gaza. For anyone not to believe that what is happening at present in the starvation of the Palestinian people is not collective punishment and therefore genocide, beggars belief.

By the way I have never been of the belief that my own country is blameless in anything, historically there is much I can lay at their door too…but today mostly it’s criticism of not speaking out strongly enough against Israel and USA.

@Marionville We won't agree on NATO, but that is fine.
To counter your claim "NATO is not the aggressor, unlike Russia it does not invade any countries, its whole reason for being at all is as a defence organisation and as a deterrent to invasion of any member countries". I ask the simple question how were Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia and Libya a threat to European security? It seems they overstep their charter somewhat yes?
Finland broke a long standing treaty to maintain neutrality regarding military alliance, now broken and not by Russia. The result? A militarised border. Thanks NATO, again, keeping Europe safer by ever expanding.

And the real game here is BRICS nations Vs US/ Western hegemony. Now if Putin is a megalomaniac, he would not be promoting BRICS. It is why they hold back with Ukraine, it would drive states away from joining BRICS.

So either Putin is a meglomaniac out to recreate USSR glory days, or he is taking a stand against Western hegemony in order to promote a multipolar world, one with no super powers, via BRICS.
He can't be both.

it has been obvious for years now. that tiny rogue state controls the mighty USA.

It was shameful during his first administration. For us to give him a second opportunity to wreak havoc on the world is inexcusable. I wish I could offer you comfort in the idea that the US will eventually find it’s way back to pragmatic compromise, but we seem to be stuck in a relentless toilet whirlpool. It’s not about doing what’s right for the world or even what’s right for ourselves, it’s all about scoring points against our political rivals. Sorry.

I wish I had an answer for you but it's been beyond belief to me for the past decade, and has been rapidly accelerating this past six months. Combining the orange plague's adoration for Netanyahu and Putin with the Project 2025 playbook is a formula for destruction and, truly, I get a thrill every time a country is able to hold the line against them because it means they won't be drawn into our hellhole ... and may even be able to help us resist it. So you are correct in recognizing our country as hostile to democracy.

I was dismayed on the way home to hear NPR reporting on how Trump's tariffs will enable us to pay down the trillions of dollars from the tax breaks within x years ... I kept waiting for them to mention that the tariffs are a tax on the working class which transfer their money to the 1% but they didn't. They reported it as if it were a solid financial move on the part of our government. And I mourned it as one more line of defense falling in our attempt to salvage the country. I wish I had better news.

I feel for you…who knows what state your country will be in by the end of his tenure.

@Marionville Thank you. I worry about that a lot myself, and what it will take to get it back on track.

@Marionville-- it will not be good but sadly britain & most of the ROW will be in an even worse state.
