Does anyone follow the horses on the road to the Kentucky Derby?
I worked for a couple years on a thoroughbred breeding farm and a few of the babies that I took care of are pointing to the race. Code of Honor (pictured 3rd from the right) has already earned enough points to qualify for the Derby, Vekoma (left) still needs to get more points, but has a chance.
Also Country House, who is running in the Louisiana Derby today, was one of 'my kids' at that farm.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.If anyone is still following along, Code of Honor finished 3rd in the Florida Derby, Country House finished 3rd in the Arkansas Derby, and Vekoma WON the Bluegrass Stakes, which means that ALL 3 earned enough points to qualify for the Kentucky Derby, and if all goes well, they will all be in the starting gate on the first Saturday in May!

Well, my boy Country House could only manage 4th place in the LA Derby, he now has 30 points towards getting into the Derby, which may not be enough.
Code of Honor should run next in the Florida Derby and Vekoma is coming back to Kentucky to run in the Blue Grass Stakes here at Keeneland.

I only follow on derby day (my b-day is may 2 so one day I want to go watch live on MY DAY ?) but it is so neat to have a bit of background. I am similar with cutting horses. Worked on a breeding farm for a few years and with a couple of trainers.

the Derby is an experience like no other, I hope you get to go! The first Saturday in May falls on the 2nd next year, so start planning your trip now 
Derby tickets are hard to come by, and expensive!

it's expensive but worth it!
I'll also be keeping my eye on the winners of the 2 divisions of the Rebel, Omaha Beach and Long Range Toddy, as they are both Grandsons of one of my favorite mares, Take Charge Lady. I worked with her many years ago, when she was just starting out as a 2yo, working as a hot walker for her trainer Ken McPeek.
