It is a very heavy year for fruit this Autumn. There are huge clusters of berries on my Rowan, ( Sorbus ) and the apples on my Crab Apple, (Malus) are hanging like ropes.

Its the hight of the tree blossom season here now. The apple blossom is especially good this year nearly making the branches droop with the weight. The Acer is not bad either.

In the bleak mid winter, only yesterday. Still a little colour in the garden though most things are flat and dull now. Crab apples, Winter Cherry, Stinking Iris berries just splitting, Winter Jasmine and Mahonia.

Several years ago I grafted several apple varieties on a tree one being called Pink Pearl. Finally, this year it bore some of the apples and they are even more beautiful than I thought. Notice the heart shaped pattern around the core.

Spring is sprung here in Pittsburgh...finally. Apple tree is in full bloom (Pippin Apple), first asparagus (can't wait to eat some!), first peach blossom, tulip and lemon balm.

My crab apples "Red Sentinel" often linger right through the winter, they cover the tree and look especially good with snow on them, or as here in bright winter sun. You could cook with them but they are beautiful just to look at, and the birds love ...
