If you describe yourself as "Atheist," some people will say, "Don't you mean 'Agnostic'?" I have to reply that I really do mean Atheist. I really do not believe that there is a god - in fact I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one. It's easier to say that I am a radical Atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it's an opinion I hold seriously. It's funny how many people are genuinely surprised to hear a view expressed so strongly. In England we seem to have drifted from vague wishy-washy Anglicanism to vague wishy-washy Agnosticism - both of which I think betoken a desire not to have to think about things too much.
Would have been Douglas Adams' birthday today.
Author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Don't panic!
Born: March 11, 1952
Birthplace: Cambridge, England
Died: May 11, 2001 (aged 49)
Cause of Death: Myocardial infarction and a fatal cardiac arrhythmia
I absolutely agree with you.
I am an atheist. Completely and unapologetically.
There is NOTHING that has ever proven the existence of ANY god, at
any time.
Religious faith is a voluntary and deliberate mental illness, of that I am also completely sure.
To me, agnosticism is bullshit. You either choose to be mentally ill, or you
do not.
Saying, "I don't know", is a cop out. Saying, "It's unknowable", is also a cop out. It is most definitely "knowable". There is NO evidence to prove the existence
of ANY god EVER.
I've always thought that agnostics are just pussies who can't commit.
Saying, "I don't know whether I believe or not", is pretty fucking pathetic.
It's a "yes or no" proposition. You either do, or you don't.
Yes, there are those who will find my position to be offensive.
I think their offense is hilarious, and I'm glad they're offended.
They don't like it when anyone challenges them to defend their bullshit
positions. Being an agnostic means you don't have to pick a side.
They're the reason why the religutards have gained so much power,
and the rest of us have to fight so damned hard to push back against
their intrusions.
So long! And thanks for all the fish!!
Great! Thanks for the post ??
There won't ever be another like him anytime soon!
I sure do miss Douglas Adams.
Me too.
@scurry I didn't get very far with his text adventure game. Wish I could have found a cheat sheet.
@WonderWartHog99 Oh Ya - I remember that... If memory serves, I didn't make it very far either.
I'll have to give it another try.
