Hi. I qualified to join Mensa years ago, based on a high school test score. I submitted the information, and got all the documents to join, but was dating (and later married to) a guy who was not supportive. So I didn't join. 25 years later, I divorced him, and recently came across the info, while preparing to move in a few months. I've considered joining again, thinking it would be enjoyable to spend time with people who read, think, follow current events, etc. Does anyone here attend the meetings? Is it worth the cost?
For some of us , making new friends isn't easy . If you're moving , check out where they hold their meetings and join for the opportunity of making new friends , who won't feel imitated by an intelligent woman . Who knows , maybe your next relationship will work out better if you're dealing with an equal .
@Hope4US -- I was a member for a while and was active in various SIGs. After approximately 3 years, I let my membership go because work got busy busy busy and my interest slacked off as well.
Would it be worth your time? Only you can say that. Give it a go. After all, the only thing you'd be out would be a little time and some dues. Who knows what you might find?
I don't think so, I found it "Snobbish" But that is only my opinion.
@Coldo -- It's a mite different for each locale. I was fortunate enough to get in with a group of laid back folks who pursued fascinating interests for the most part. There were a couple of hard-to-takes in the local group, but I didn't have to deal with them, so all was well. A lot also depends on the person doing the observing, so what I found to be a congenial and amicable group might have been intolerable to someone else. You have to try it before you can know whether you like it or not, which is true of a lot of things in life.
@evidentialist unfortunately nearly all the lot i met up with were "Snobbish" about Mensa.
