Slayer's 1986 Def Jam Demo & Metallica's 1982 demo. Boy, Metal Blade fucked up. Alter of Sacrifice sounds sooooo loopy in this. Reigning Blood just sounds wrong and loopy as well. They added 4 notes really fast towards the end of Alter. Dunno if the recordings are just that bad, or the demos deteriorated over time. The artwork for Metallica's demo is cooler than anything they put on a studio album. Dave is on vocals, not James. Funny story about Mustaine and Tom Araya. The first time I saw them in Bonner Springs, Tom's voice must have gone south or something. Dave did vocals for him. Naturally, my phone was dead. I did ask one of the guys standing next to me if they could record it. Both their phone were dead. Or they said. Even at after hours parties that night, people didn't believe it was Dave. Another tangent is I had a pic with a Nameless Ghoul. Some dude took a pic and sent it to me. Didn't back it up and bricked my phone.
Kudos on providing some examples of the birth of extreme Metal music. Without pushing boundaries & subjective pain thresholds. The heaviest incarnations of Metal music today may of never been..
