Has anyone ever called a suicide hotline? What happened? Was it helpful?

The life insurance industry has a strange, but helpful approach to Suicide. When you apply for a policy, they don't advocate for not committing suicide, but instead explain the clause. For the first year or two, there is no payout, but once they sunset is past, then if you do it, your policy will pay the full amount. It sounds cold, doesn't it?

On the other hand it's super effective. Most people don't stay suicidal for that long, and statistically, a year or two later, they don't want to go through with it.

The Suicide Hotline is similar in coldness, but they generally have that same idea of if they can get you through a waiting period, you may no longer wish to harm yourself.

Jewish Grandmothers may help too. If you sit through their guilt trips and haven't already gone through with it, then you probably won't. It's even worse after Grandma dies, because if there is an afterlife, she's waiting to give you a millennium long lecture. It's just not worth it.

I did when I was in the USA.
One of their tactic is to make you wait for an annoyingly long time.
And then they try to access your level of depression. If they feel like you have the will and ability harm yourself, they will send an ambulance your way.
In short, they, like most people, don't care about the pain you feel. They just wanna keep you alive.
I'd advise you talk to someone that have been through what you are going through, hence understand your pain.

I've found suicide hotlines worthless.
