It has been my painful experience that police brutality is not entirely race based. I'm a white boy and in my day I was a long haired hippy. I got my ass beat by 4 or 5 cops(little hard to get accurate count). They were chasing me and before I crashed I made them look really stupid, if I had been a little less drunk, I would have gotten away. They never got close enough to see my plates, and it was at night so they couldn't tell what I was driving or what color it was, then I crashed. They made me pay for making them look dumb in front of their fellow officers. When I got to jail they swore my injuries came from the crash. Nobody seemed to notice the 2 people with me didn't have a scratch, and I was beat all to hell. I didn't have a leg to stand on anyway, 3 long haired trashed hoodlums running from the law in the middle of the night on a dark country road. I didn't even try, I just took my licks and went on my way. They continued to harass me every chance they got until I moved away, so they abuse white people too. which actually makes it even worse.
One horrible experience can leave you terrified of LEO's for life. In 1975, my brother, then 18, was going to his buddy's house. Two of his friends were ahead of him in their car. The state troopers pulled over my brother, claiming he did not turn on the signal quick enough. They barked out "GIT OUTTA THE CAR, ASSHOLE!" They hollered "You pay $25 right now or go to jail for 25 days!" His buddies turned around, got out, and they got the cash out of their pockets to pay off the scammer bullies. My brother did not dare go to the station to complain. My parents (it was their car) also did not dare complain. We lived way out in the country. If somebody wants to burn down your house, they can do it. Back then it would take 45 minutes for the fire fighters to get there. So, they put up and shut up. To this day, my brother is terrified and bitter towards cops .... and if they do this to a blond, blue eyed white kid, imagine what they do .... well, we already know what they do. I have my own horror stories .... back in early 80's I had a job typing reports for police .... 21 truly terrible months. Took maybe two years for the nightmares and panic episodes to calm down. More on that later. Right now I am too riled up to write any more.
Many people do not care much about abusive cops because they are white. Where I grew up, in Puerto Rico, USA wearing your hair long could get you a beating just for that. Long hair in males was seen as a political statement and against the Vietnam War. You see the shooting and beatings of white cops toward black people. They get away it because the whites do not care. Then slowly but surely whites start to get beat up too but what are you going to do. It is too late because the shootings and beatings have become commonplace occurrences. In spite of all this, people have to use their phone/cameras and document as many beatings as you can see and give it to the media and put these guys on the spot.
You see the guys out there showing their long hair. Wjhen I was coming of age; during the Vietnam era, , long haired (even less if you play in a rock band) long hair was a political statement mostly against the war. Back in the day was the cops vs people. I got beat up more that one ocassion because my hair was long.
If you were black, they would have killed you. I’m sorry that you were brutalized, but you’re alive to tell the tale. It really isn’t the same.
The way I meant that is, not only are cops beating and shooting up blacks they are doing shit to whites also.
