Have watched this several times. Sir Attenborough is not afraid to call it like it is. He is not afraid to point many fingers at humans and our sick society. He is not afraid to talk about overpopulation.

This morning on NPR the number of species taken off the endangered species list because they have become extinct has risen to 23.
[npr.org] go to 23 seconds for the sound of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker.

Was terribly sad to read about the extinction of the beautiful bird species.

@AnonySchmoose This was just the latest round of extinctions.This is the age of mass extinctions not seen in eons.

@JackPedigo
"The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposed today to remove eight birds and a plant in Hawai‘i from the endangered species list because of extinction. They join the list of 650 U.S. species that have likely been lost to extinction. The service has been exceedingly slow to protect species. A 2016 study found that species waited a median of 12 years to receive safeguards. Several of the species in today’s announcement went extinct during a delay in the listing process. In total, at least 47 species have gone extinct waiting for protection."

“It’s heartbreaking that Hawai‘i is known as the ‘extinction capital of the world,’” said Phillips. “Despite making up 30% of the nation’s listed species, our incredibly rare Hawaiian plants and animals receive less than 10% of the money appropriated for recovery.”

@AnonySchmoose Thanks for the link. I noted a section 'population and sustainability.' Wonder what that means, the species population or our overpopulation.
You do know we are in the era of the Anthropocene, the sixth great extinction due to human encroachment and overpopulation. Someday, we may occupy the planet mostly alone.

@JackPedigo
Yes... am horribly sad about extinction

He has definitely lived a life with benefit to all lifeforms on the planet.

A must watch!

In sober terms, he knows how to exalt the evolution and ecology of our planet, and how we can allow nature do its job again to prevent annihilation of all lifeforms.

@AnonySchmoose He’s most definitely one of my favourite men of the past 60 or so years and a National treasure here in the U.K.
