Math Genius Has Come Up With a Wildly Simple New Way to Solve Quadratic Equations: [sciencealert.com]
I’m tending to invoke Dunning-Kruger on this one. His “method” is not unreasonable if both roots are real but gets impossible if the roots are complex. The formula gives the answer in both cases. It really isn’t much different (if at all) from Newton’s approximation method.
What Loh describes doesn't seem particularly different from the usual than the usual quadratic formula, but it does work for complex solutions too. He gives an example at [poshenloh.com]
