Have you had an abusive advisor/ co-worker?
Yes, I work in soft science. I have had an abusive supervisor. I worked in mental health with chronically homeless people that were mentally ill and had substance abuse problems. I burnt out my body and mind due to the high-stress level. My health was ruined so that I could not work. Often health decline is linked with chronic stress and bullying. The supervisor was a bully and the government climate at my work did not allow me to report him properly or allow for corrective action to stop it. My reporting him was seen as harassing him by himself and the E.D.
Just a note, he was highly Christian and for the seven years, I worked under him he had a bible study book open to a "worker's do not know what they do" similar to the saying out of the bible. He yelled at me until I was in tears for a report that was not needed. I was off due to my daughter being in critical condition because of pneumonia, (she survived and is happy), and I had not been able to enter in data when I was gone. He did this and other bullying in a group meeting with my co-workers. He eventually moved on to become a director at HUD in Kansas City, Kansas. Another woman quit after I left due to his behavior despite trying to get the situation corrected by the director (a lawyer). She was told that no one reported behavior like the bullying behavior of my boss that said she experienced, when if fact, I did experience it and reported it and lodged multiple complaints to no avail. The example illustrates a sample of the behavior that can occur in deep religiosity and what is called the "Peter Principal". Below is a link for people bullied at the workplace. It usually is better to quit and find another job when a boss is bullying you because companies do not know how to handle it.
This is terrible! Organizations seem to reward the bullies
