I just caught this on Tipping Point (a UK TV Game Show) the other night...
Q: A light year is a unit of distance based on how far light travels over how many years?
A: A million.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!
I omwatched BBC America saw a documentary on Sir Isaac Newton. The town were he was born placed a statue to honor there talented son. A week later the citizen were questioned who was the statue. Most didn't know. The people in the UK can be just a I'll educated as any other country.
There are many songs that use the term Light Year as a form of time, ugh!! [lyrics.com]
in this case though, I think the person answered million because space objects are often X million or billion LY away so he associated LY with a large number.
