Sometimes believers argue that religion has played a great role make human being civilised.what do you think?
It has played a great role in making human civilization ORGANIZED, civilized can be true but it also can lead to genocide.
Without religion there would have been no Inquisition or witch-burning.
If anything religion has held back civilization in favour of barbarism and tribalism, humanity has become more civilised in spite of religion rather than due to it.
Religion has played a great role uniting people in war against "the other".
You don't think for yourself and all actions are in the name of something else. It makes people happy to have an answer for what they don't understand. It brings confidence and purpose to those who can't think for themselves. It looks ridiculous preying for the sun to come up. Some people pray and ask why not think and do?
No. Absolutely not. With my new eyes, I see things that once appeared good and holy, now seem so foolish and evil. No growth (except getting 'closer to the lord). No wonder i felt like I was spinning my wheels so frequently...praying over things, instead of taking real action, raising children to trust in fairy tales, basing major decisions on a 'good feeling', etc..No, I don't call that civilizated. Barbaric, maybe...
Uruguay, Denmark - less religion more happiness.
