I took this story from the MSN news page. What caught my attention is not that there were 150 people at the funeral but that the 17 year old killed is a father of three. Surely that is a mistake. If not it is far too late for a Darwin award for him.
The average teenage boy, given the chance, could and would, happily father about fourteen children a week. Fortunately most teenage and older females have the measure of them, but occasionally some get through the net. Sadly in Darwinian terms, being stupid enough not to understand how contraception works, is the best strategy available to humans now, so that the next giant evolutionary leap forward for the human race, will be, to become really stupid.
( This is not altogether a joke, there is some evidence that human brains have been shrinking since the agricultural revolution. )
Remember, it's not brain size that matters, but the number and complexity of its connections.
Marie Curie, an undoubted genius, had one of the smallest brains ever measured.
@Fernapple Too many humans will lead to a ruined planet, and ultimate extinction of homo sapiens, so perhaps excessive breeding is not a good strategy.
On the other hand, fewer homo sapiens, all with increased intelligence, would be an evolutionary plus, especially with robotics taking over many of the tasks performed by the menial masses.
