Storm Ali.....Was anyone affected by today’s storm. There was a man killed in Co.Armagh by a tree falling on him and in the Irish Republic a Swiss woman was killed when her caravan was blown over a cliff in Co.Galway, Many roads were blocked by falling trees and I myself lost one tree which was uprooted and a large branch of another crashed down luckily missing the house but taking part of a fence with it. I also was without electricity for a large part of the day. The storm has now moved over to Scotland so maybe someone there is having it rough now.

The meteorologists keep telling us we are going to get more extreme weather more frequently but we keep ignoring them! We all need to think more about having emergency supplies in ready and checking things like possibly dangerous tree branches, possible water or mud flows towards our houses, and suchlike. Exeter has historically been very prone to flooding but has had flood relief schemes for many years. The last couple of years the city Council has been extending the flood relief channels and building higher flood defences. It's worth finding out what your local authority is doing.

You take the brunt of it in Ireland when it comes in directly from the west but it means you protect the rest of the UK a bit!

Yes we do. I had some one of my biggest trees cut down during last winter after a bad storm, but because the trees are still in leaf at this time of the year the act like sails and are more likely to come down .....could be worse, at least no injury or damage to the house.
