No surprise to me. The DUP who are their current political bedfellows and currently propping up this Tory government, have supporters who are downright racist.bigots and openly brag about it, it goes beyond Islamophobia here, it is anyone who is not a WASP. I don’t know how they could ally themselves with Rees-Mogg here, as he’s a Catholic, they hate them as much as they hate blacks, Jews and of course, Muslims. As far as the Tories are concerned, Brexit has just unleashed a willingness for these people to be more open about their islamophobic views. These same people are probably racists and anti-semites too. I believe they also have a big problem in the Labour Party as recent events have revealed....especially its problem wirh anti-semites. When people are encouraged to believe that they, and only they and people of the exact same ethnicity have the right to be in the country....then racism and hatred of “the other” occurs. Brexit has brought all this out in the open, but these people have always been here, just hidden in plain sight. I really don’t know how we are going to stamp out this hateful mindset in some people, but education has to be the key. Politicians, Tory and others must stop ramping up the rhetoric about immigration,, that would be a step in the right direction.
