Are there any Geordies here? Here is a song by Mark Knopfler called Basil. The Basil in question was Basil Buntiing the assistant Editor of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle when Knopfler had a Saturday job as a copy boy at the newspaper. Later Bunting went on to literary fame with the poem Briggflatts.

Are you from Newcastle? My Grandad came from Gateshead.
@Marionville I come from Chester-le-Street, so probably not strictly banks-of the Tyne Geordie, but spent a lot of my formative years in Newcastle, and have sisters still up there, one living in Felling - a Gateshead suburb. All very spruced up there these days, especially both sides along the Tyne. Do you know the area at all? Chasing family tree info can get you into that
@Trasimene No I don’t really know the area, my grandfather moved from there up to Musselburgh in the east of Scotland as a young man....I’m not sure if there are still any relatives around Gateshead now. I live in Northern Ireland now, having moved there on marriage in 1973.
