Is anyone watching the Open Golf from Royal Portrush? I live about 40 miles south of there, but am only watching it on TV. There is great excitement in Northern Ireland to be hosting this prestigious tournament again after 68 years, but alas our big hope Rory McIlroy got off to a nervy start this morning, after our other hero Darren Clarke was given the honour of teeing off first this morning to start the competition. Clarke actually lives in a house overlooking the golf links at Portrush, so didn’t have far to travel for the 6.30 start! After day one England’s Tommy Fleetwood lies third, but there is a lot of golf ahead before the winner lifts the Claret Jug on Sunday. I think the weather will be the real challenge for some, as typically Northern Irish squally rain is forecast for tomorrow.

Well done Shane Lowry. Very well deserved and good to see a new name on the old trophy

It has gone down well over here that he’s won....if it couldn’t be Rory, Graeme or Darren...then Shane from down in Offaly is next best choice! He’s very popular amongst the golfing fraternity.
