I’m confused (again)!
What is this business about Ken Clarke being a caretaker PM and why is one needed anyway?
A bizarre and unprecedented proposal yet no more so than a bunch of other twists and turns over the past few years. 5 years ago the only thing less likely than Ken Clarke as PM would be the Clown Prince BoJo getting the job.
I thought Ken Clarke had retired years ago. Clearly not!
I think it would be a very intelligent action to take. The however, is the Brexiteers wouldn't go for it. Ken is a lover of the EU and will be seen as problematic to getting their wishes of returning us to the world of 1879, where Britain ruled the waves, Queen Victoria was on the throne and we told everyone what to do and even those pesky Boers still liked us!
No NHS, state pension, motor cars, flying machines or welfare state. Kids worked up chimneys and were glad to die of complex lung infections in their early twenties!
To be serious for a moment. British politics needs to while to reset, we really must understand what we have done and what will happen with Brexit. In or Out was not the correct question without caveats being added. The situation is far more complex than that.
Thanks. I love the Rule Britannia reference and our jolly old colonial past.
As you say, reset would be a good idea.
Damn for a minute there I thought that said Clark Kent for PM and thought I had slipped in to an alternate reality.
Nearly correct!
Don’t get excited...it is only a proposal at present. To win a no confidence vote in Parliament to bring down Boris and his cabinet...they need to have a temporary PM to form a cross-party government which will delay Brexit and call a general election, or a new referendum, or both. Corbyn put himself forward but couldn’t get any of the other opposition parties to agree....Ken Clarke is an acceptable figure to all.
Thanks, so a cross-bench preference?
