Better news this lunchtime for jobs in Northern Ireland after last week’s announcement of the closure of Wrightbus in Ballymena, with the immediate loss of 1,200 jobs. Harland and Wolf, the shipyard where the Titanic was built, and which has a long history of shipbuilding in Belfast has just been sold to Infrastrata a London based energy company, all 12O jobs being retained. They went into receivership in July, and it’s been an anxious time for the employees who have had a 9 week sit-in at the yard at Belfast Docks, supported by their union Unite.
But is Boris' latest plan good for either or both parts of Ireland?
We don’t know the details....but I predict that it won’t be a flier with the EU, Ireland, or the people here!
@Marionville DUP seem happy??
@Mcflewster Yes...but they don’t represent the majority of voters. Remember the majority voted to stay in the EU.
Of course, when they say energy company, they mean oil moguls. I hope this indicates they want to change to doing things that reduce our impact on the climate...
Good news for Belfast in the short term, here's hoping for the long term.
Infrastrata is developing a gas storage facility using innovative technology at Islandmagee a peninsula to the north of Belfast and close to Ballylumford Power Station, our main power station and close to where the inter- connector between Scotland and Ireland comes in under the Irish Sea, Harland & Wolf will be developing and manufacturing the infrastructure for the plant.

Posted by MattHardyA Boris promise is just a lie that hasn't happened yet. Whatever Sue Grey says, no way is Boris going to admit he lied and resign.
