The BBC news, covering storm Dennis, talked about "freak weather".
It's not "freak" weather at all. I reckon it's the new "normal" weather, and that in a few years time "freak weather" will mean a gentle winter.

In general, news people (not just BBC) are trained in the arts as opposed to the sciences. They have no interest in or knowledge of science subjects and therefore because of their lack of understanding, the easiest way to report changing weather systems is by using the word 'freak'.

I can put up with the wet windy winters if we have warm dry summers.

Moravian Level 8 Feb 19, 2020

Trouble is "warm, dry summers" are becoming drought stricken heatwaves.
