Hi All!
Looks like I'm now a paid journo at two gaming sites, βExclusively Gamesβ and now the fantastically titled βThe Nerd Stashβ.
Looks like I'm going up in the world Shame the same can't be said about gaming... βΉ
Enjoy!
Congratulations! I enjoyed the article too. I'm also 60% tea but my view on gaming is summed up by Abe Simpson's quote: 'I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.'
I'd say that pay to win started with Magic cards. That's an awful development. Of course I think that the games of my youth are better, so was the music and the telly. But as the Abe suggests it just have happened at a point in my life when my emotions had been turned up to 11 by puberty and first loves. I also had free time to immerse myself. If games have moved from single developers like Jeff Minter or Sid Meier to full blown studios with Hollywood budgets then isn't that somewhat at odds with the idea that gaming is in decline? Elite was my favourite game of my childhood but I haven't looked at Elite Dangerous I'm told that after initial stumbles No Mans Sky successfully recaptures the breath of what I dreamed of would be the future of gaming however after working, looking after my family and walking a border collie I don't have that sort of time.
My guess is that when Gen Xers start retiring then you'll see some interesting impacts on the gaming market.
Agree with you there. Note the article's title was a question, not a statement. "Is gaming in decline?" My conclusion was that it had been declining in quality for a while, but its quantity has been increasing, and it looks like the quality is set to rise again
All None religious should look into war games and others more violent to see why a big portion of society is besotted by them . Well done for leading the way!
