3RD RUNWAY PLANS FOR HEATHWAY RULED UNLAWFUL.....breaking news just minutes ago! The court case was brought by environmental groups, London councils and the Mayor of London.
The court said the government won’t appeal against the judgement. The judges did say though, that in future a third runway could go ahead, as long as it fits with the UK’s climate commitments.
WTF has this got to do with atheism?
Everything has to do with atheism. Or do we not exist?
It’s obvious that you’re new here....we discuss all kinds of things that are topical and of interest to the U.K. in this group. We don’t just talk about religion,or the lack of it, on this site, although rather a lot of that goes on here too. We are interested in much more beyond the same old, same old, ad nauseam! Some of us don’t wish to constantly talk about atheism, agnosticism or religion, others do. There something for everyone here, you don’t need to join in any of the posts which don’t interest you, just move on and find one that does, without being rude if that’s possible. P.S..I see that you accessed this post through the Humanist website...I thought I had blocked it!
As a Southend lad myself I'm all in favour of getting more holiday destinations that don't involve expensive transfers and parking. Day trips to Amsterdam are already a bonus. But it is a very small airport. To expand it to the level where it could handle the same sort of traffic as a third Heathrow runway you'd basicly be starting from scratch. Also the transport links to and through London are not ideal. We'd definitely need cross rail for this to be remotely viable. Much of the traffic is where London acts as an international hub. A third runway at heathrow helps passengers who need to change at London much more than expanding an airport that is an hour or two from London's other airports.
I still think it would be better to expand London Southend to relieve the load.
No..not Southend ...that would be much too far to south and east.. Stanstead would make more sense.
@Marionville Stanstead and Luton are to the North, Heathrow to the West, Gatwick to the South. Only the South-East is badly served.
@Petter You need to cater for more than the south east corner...anyway Boris may resurrect his Thames Estuary plan!
@Marionville That's directly to the East, no less!
Eddie Stobart would not be happy. It competes with his Southend airport!
@Petter I don’t think Boris will care about who’s turf he encroaches on!
@Marionville ...or even whose turf.
@Petter Bugger this stupid device!
@Marionville I'll hold it. You bugger it!
Good news
Yes..especially for those who live in that area.
@OwlInASack The govt may have said they won’t appeal the decision, but Heathrow have just announced that they will be lodging one.

Posted by webspider555I’m beginning to wonder whether our government is just incompetent or are all these things happening just to get us in a rage arguing amongst ourselves.
