He implemented many programs to help put people to work and clean up the environment. Programs similar to FDR's programs. He was even named man of the year and nominated for the Nobel Peach Prize. I've often remarked on that, myself.
Hilarious..and to think she was shadow Home Secretary for a while.! However a good point was made that we have chosen which dictators to revile and those we’ve chosen to thrown our hat in with....depending on what is perceived to be in our best interests. They always justify it by maintaining the ends justify the means!

Castro did some good things too. Everyone is educated in Cuba and everyone gets health care. That doesn''t erase his homophobia, transphobia, and squashing any free press.
